How do I set up a free link?Use our
special form here to generate
a free link using the postcode of the location. Once generated,
simply insert the link into the code of your website to offer
visitors the specific map. If you don't want to use the automatic
link generator, you can set up the link manually. Information on
how to do this can be found by clicking here.

How do I get a free listing on the Local Info
page? The free linking service allows you to include a certain
parameter that will put your site in one of the categories in the
Local Info section. For more information on how to do this please
see the implementation instructions on the site here. You
can also use the automatic link generator here. This
creates the link for you which you can then copy and paste into
your code. To be listed in Local Info, you just need to select a
category that best describes your site. Our webcrawler will
automatically find your reciprocal link within 1-2 days and add
your listing to our database.

What if the location I want a map of doesn't
have a postcode?Instead of using a postcode, you can use grid
references to generate a link. If you display a map on the main
site using a postcode or a place name, the grid references you
need are displayed beneath the map as X and Y
co-ordinates.
Use our online automatic link generator here
to create a new link for your website using the two grid
references. Entering the X reference as GridE and the Y as GridN.
Once the link is generated you can copy and paste it into the
address bar on your browser and this will take you back to the
map. Changing the values of GridE and GridN will move the red
location circle. Add an increment of 100 to GridE to move the
circle east and subtract 100 from GridE to move west. The same
logic applies to the GridN value for north and south.
Once
you have the circle showing the location of your address, you can
use this URL as the link to the maps from your website.

Can I link to the world maps?Yes. However,
instead of using the postcode or grid reference you need to copy
and paste the URL of the map page you wish to link to. To obtain
this URL the easiest method is to go to the World
Search page on our website and enter the name of the place you
want to link to. If it is listed in our database a map will appear
you are then free to copy this URL and paste it into a hyperlink
in your page.

Why don't you charge for the linking
service? To cover the cost of providing this service, our
banner advertising will appear on the free map page and our
website will open in a new window.

Can I embed the map images if I don't want to
link? No. Licensing restrictions imposed by our data suppliers
mean that users are not permitted to display the maps within their
own website - even if the user is linking to our website behind
the image. However, maps without our advertising or branding are
available for a fee. Please see our Business Services section for
more information on our mapping options.

I have set up the link using a postcode, but
the circle displayed is in the wrong place.GB postcodes cover
an average of 15 adjacent addresses and in some areas (especially
rural areas) this relates to quite a large distance. The red
circle relates to the postcode alone, which is shared between
several addresses and therefore covers a wider area than just a
single location. To generate a map without using the postcode,
users can opt to use two grid references for a more accurate
location map. If you display a map on the main site using a
postcode or a place name, the grid references you need are
displayed beneath the map as X and Y co-ordinates.
Use our
online automatic link generator here to create a
new link for your website using the two grid references. Entering
the X reference as GridE and the Y as GridN. Once the link is
generated you can copy and paste it into the address bar on your
browser and this will take you back to the map. Changing the
values of GridE and GridN will move the red location circle. Add
an increment of 100 to GridE to move the circle east and subtract
100 from GridE to move west. The same logic applies to the GridN
value for north and south.
Once you have the circle showing
the location of your address, you can use this URL as the link to
the maps from your website.

How do I delete or edit a link? Our free
linking service is an automated process. Our webcrawler
periodically checks the validity of each link and if it detects
that the page the link points to does not exist, or no longer
includes a link to Multimap, the webcrawler renders the link
invalid and the entry is automatically removed from the database
within 24 hours. If you wish to delete the links yourself you can
do so by amending the "cat=" parameter to "cat=xxx".

Why has my link not appeared in the
listings? It normally takes about 48 hours for a link to
automatically reciprocate from our site, but unfortunately at the
moment it is taking longer as we are experiencing a problem with
the auto function. While this feature is being fixed, we can
manually enable the link and our technical team will be carrying
this out soon. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience
caused and be reassured that your link will appear soon.
